Build Your Social Media Strategy

Social media marketing has the potential to be a significant marketing tool for your business, as it allows you to connect one-on-one. But, you need to have a plan to really build your profile.

That said, it is important that the way you engage with these groups, using social media, is consistent with your other marketing and enforces your brand image.

To do this, create a social media blueprint and plan the way you will interact on your platforms. You can then integrate your blueprint into your marketing strategy.

Why a social media blueprint?

Your social media blueprint is much like your marketing plan but thinking these elements through will help you stay on brand and on message. Your blueprint should include:

  • Each social media platform you use or are planning to use
  • The key marketing messages you want to convey
  • Who you are aiming your social media updates at (your target market)
  • A plan of the posts you intend to make on each platform, incorporating key messages
  • A plan for how you will interact and engage with followers
  • A plan for social media advertising
  • The strategies you will use to entice people to connect with your page
  • How you will ensure consistency between your marketing platforms

Social media is not a set and forget.

The key to real value from your social media marketing is getting your platforms to work together. Social media marketing cannot just be a set and forget activity for you.

Ultimately the goal of your social media marketing is to drive traffic to your website or place of business. To help this along, incorporate call to actions into your updates.

For example, you may post on Twitter “check out our latest blog/video/post”, driving traffic to other social platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube. You can also direct your followers straight to your website or place of business will call to actions like “sign up to our newsletter” or “come in to redeem your special offer.”

Once people are directed to your website, you need to grab their attention through more call to actions. Your website needs to rock!
