Get to know your Customers
There’s no denying that customers are the most important stakeholders in your business. It’s your customers that purchase, so it stands to reason that there’d be no business without them.
But how well do you know them?
What are their needs, wants and desires? What do they do in their spare time? What do they spend their disposable income on? What are they scared of?
What makes them tick?
Customer profiling includes asking yourself these types of questions and finding out the answers through market research.
Examples of common forms of market research include interviews, questionnaires, focus groups, surveys and behavioural analyses.
Your target market is made up of not only your existing customers but your potential customers as well. Knowing as much as you can about your target market is vital for effective marketing. It helps you narrow your marketing activities, which makes things a whole lot easier when you’re:
- brainstorming the benefits and attributes of your product or service
- creating a positioning statement to appeal to your target market
- devising the key messages you will communicate to them
- deciding on a pricing strategy
- researching possible distribution strategies.
If you’re not familiar with the characteristics of your target market, it’s likely that you’re wasting the precious dollars you do spend on marketing. So don’t be shy, get out there and get to know your customers!
